This release of Trivia MASTER is configured as a ROCK 'n ROLL Trivia
game with 500+ questions and a TOP-20 Diamond scoreboard. Instructions
on game play is selected with the (I)nstructions command at game startup.
For Registered users. this game is CONFIGURABLE up to 9 different games
and can be setup for BaseBall, Football, Movie, Star-Trek and many other
subjects. Just create a database, encode it and set the command line
paramaters and you have another game. Hence the name "Trivia MASTER!".
Registered users will be able to ENCODER-DECODE any database file from
ASCII to required format for the game, and now the option for setting
command line parameters for different games will be available to you as
well upon receipt of your registration form and appropriate amount.
The game supports both MONOchrome and ANSI Color graphic modes, COM port
COM1-2:, game exit on loss of carrier, and complete keyboard control
during runtime. Game is configured by the configuration file below.
"Dead time" is 2 minute timeout at any prompt and the game is terminated.
The following TRIVIA.CFG is commented so that it can easily edited to
comform to your BBS. The file must be in ASCII format to correctly pass
important parameters to the game. All the text to the right of the ";"
semicolons are just remarks. SETUP.EXE program can be used to create
this file instead of an ASCII editor.

BULLETINS
---------
On game completion, automatic TOP-20 Bulletins, both MONO and COLOR will
be created to the PATH/FILESPEC designated. If the user aborts the game
at a speed prompt with 'Q',then the game is exited and no bulletin created.
If NO BULLETINS ARE WISHED, or no color bulletin is supported, then place
a uppercase N/A in the line where the PATH parameters/filespec is!
PRINTER LOG
-----------
If a printer is being used to keep a running log of callers, errors, etc.,
then you can place in upper case the word LPTx (x=1-3) in the above config
file. Game minutes, start time and end time are printed on the printer
connected to printer port 1 (LPT1-3). Also untrapped errors are recorded.

Trivia BBS Caller file support:
NOTE!
Unlike previous versions of Trivia MASTER!, you no longer need to put on
the DOS commandline a switch for BBS type. This is now done internally
through the appropriate BBS Dropfile's filename!
Line # 4 of TRIVIA.CFG contains the 'dropfile' path and filespec for the
following supported standards below. Any particular additional info
required will be noted next to the dropfile name. If your game batchfile
changes into the door games' directory and copies the caller file into the
game directory, all you need to do is just place the appropriate dropfile
filename and the game will read if from the currect directory.
BBS Dropfile
------------------- -------------------------------------------------
<1> WILDCAT! V2.xx --> CALLINFO.BBS
<2> WILDCAT! V3.xx --> USERINFO.DAT or DOOR.SYS
(If you use USERINFO.DAT you must have your DOS )
(environment variable WCPORTID=x, where x=1 or 2)
<3> RBBS --> DORINFOx.DEF (where x=1 to 9)
RA
QBBS
SuperBBS
<4> PHOENIX BBS --> INFO.DAT
<5> SPITFIRE --> SFDOORS.DAT
<6> GAP --> DOOR.SYS
(NOTE: BBS's supporting standard DOOR.SYS can)
(use this dropfile by name.)
<7> GTPower BBS --> GTUSER.BBS
<8> PCBOARD --> PCBOARD.SYS
(9) WWIV --> CHAIN.TXT

KEYBOARD PLAY or local mode
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRIVIA /LOCAL ;sets game to play on the keyboard, with no color.
TRIVIA /LOCAL/C ;set game to play on keyboard and use COLOR graphics.
NOTE; Bulletins are NOT created in LOCAL keyboard mode. This is purely
an evaulation mode.
SETUP EXAMPLES
--------------
Setting up Trivia MASTER! Game for WildCat! version 2.xx
Create your batch file to;
1. call the game with filename TRIVIA.
2. last line in batch file calls WILDCAT! back
An "example" of a batch file from WildCat1 ver 2.xx, named DOOR35.BAT
might look like this;
CD DOOR
CD TRIVIA
TRIVIA
CD \WILDCAT
CAT
** Be very careful with PATH for files, it must be correct! **
Game STATUS LINE;
-----------------
While the game is up, at the bottom screen line (line 25) will be the
current Player Status Line. The Game name, players name, date, time of
game start, callers baud rate and current state of the CLOCK. This will
let the SysOp know how much time the user has left in the game or online.
If the SysOp wishes to 'nuke' a player out of the game, the ESC key is the
KILL key!! Once pressed the game is terminated, so be carefull on that as
some keyboards (84 and 102) have the ESC key right next to the number 1!
FOR REGISTERED USERS ONLY!!
===========================
Once registered, you can use the TMCODE.EXE file which will allow you to
DECODE the TMCFG_1.DAT (Rock Database) file into a standard ASCII file in
which you can edit, delete/add on up to a unlimited number of questions
and answers. The TMCODE program is also required to CREATE a TMCFG_x.DAT
file for your Trivia subjects. Also you will get info on how to setup a
Trivia MASTER game for other subjects that you might have a preference to
in which YOU can create databases, encode them and then setup the new
game subject via command line. Up to a total of (9) different games can
be configured from this "one" TRIVIA.EXE game file.
Trivia MASTER! (C)opyright 1990, Page 6
Registered User Options
-----------------------
Those who register Trivia MASTER! you will be allowed some nice extras.
One is the ability to SET the number of plays from the default of three
per day. By adding the command line switch shown below you can set the
game for a maximum of 9 plays per day. I recommend that you use the
default of (3) to keep the scoreboard from changing to fast and allowing
for better competition.
TRIVIA /PLAY=5
|
+---- sets game plays to max of 5 turns a day.
Menu Front-End
--------------
A user configurable MENU front end can now be interfaced to allow the
user to choose up to 9 different game sugjects or database to compete
on. Placing the following command line and a MENU.CFG file holding
just the title of the games will allow automatic menu inferfacing to
be adopted.
TRIVIA /MENU
|
+---- sets the game to look for MENU.CFG file
A typical MENU.CFG file may look like this;
Rock'n Roll
Golf
Baseball
Television!
Each line followed by a CF-LF (carriage return/line-feed) and in ASCII
format. You will also have to have;
MENU.SCR (ANSI color)
MENU.ASC (monochrome or no color text)
Screens to show the user your custom configuration/menu. You may call
Late-Nite BBS at the numbers shown in this file and download the file
TRIVMENU.ZIP from area # 5 (BBS Doors LNS) for (5) games with MENU,
Databases and HELP screens to upgrade your registered version.
Show Answer!
------------
For those who wish to have the game DISPLAY the correct answer if a user
got it incorrect can add on line # 12 of the TRIVIA.CFG file the word in
upper case "VIEW". The game will then display the correct answer if you
wish to user to view it.
Trivia MASTER! (C) 1990 Marvin Davis Page - 7
Random PLAY!
------------
For those who want a "random" game, adding the "/RAND" command line
switch will instruct the game to "pick" a question from 1 to Dbase(max)
and present it to the user. Otherwise, questions are sequentially given
to the user and stored in the game scoreboard as to their position in
the question/answer database.
Entro ANSI/ASCII game config screens
------------------------------------
As an extra added feature you can "create" your own custom entro screens
for users to see on different game configurations. Each of 9 different
possible configurations can have individual screens. To have the Trivia
MASTER! executable pull them in, simply name the ANSI screen GAME_x.SCR
(where x=1-9) and name the ASCII (monochrome) file GAME_x.ASC. In this
way YOU can create color/mono screens for the particular configuration
number that you have a game set to (default = 1). These screens will be
brought up after the Shareware or Registration notice. Formatting note
for these screens. Do not use column 80 (leave blank) and edit the file
so that only lines 1-23 are used. In this way, the "pause" prompt will
appear correctly. Some terminal software (such as Procomm Plus) do have
problems occasionally in handling ANSI graphics and flashing characters
on column 80, so do not use it!

Trivia MASTER V4.0
Setup for Multi-Node Trivia MASTER! configurations
--------------------------------------------------
An additional switch setting can now be added to the command line with
the particular Node that is calling up the game. This is to be placed
after the command line switch for the particular BBS that is using the
game. An example command line below is set for a BBS on Node #2;
TRIVIA /NODE2
The following additional switch will cause the game to read in a file in
the current game directory called TRIVIA2.CFG instead of a normal single
BBS configuration file called TRIVIA.CFG. You may edit these files
directly with an ASCII editor or use the SETUP.EXE file and fill in the
prompts carefully, to create them. Up to 99 Nodes can have separate
TRIVIAxx.CFG (where xx=0-99 NODE numbers) in the current game directory,
and in file you can point to the NODE directory's caller file. Below is
a sample BATCHFILE that might call the game from NODE 2 for instance;
CD DOOR#3
TRIVIA /NODE2
CD BBS
CAT
EXIT
The NODExx (where xx = NODE 1-99) switch, will instruct TRIVIA.EXE to
read a different game .CFG file when its envoked. Note the complete
PATH to the caller file for the particular Node.
Example, the TRIVIA2.CFG might contain the following data;
Starvin' Marv's
Marvin
Davis
C:\BBS\NODE2\CALLINFO.BBS
C:\BULLETS\BULL#22.BBS
C:\BULLETS\BULL#22.SCR
RTS/CTS
DIRECT
NONE
00000
Presently up to two COM ports are supported (ie. COM1-COM2). They are
normally assigned to their respective COM ports, NODE1 to COM1 and NODE2
to COM2, etc. Although, the game will look into the caller file that is
specified in the BBS caller file listed in the TRIVIAxx.CFG file, and the
game will use that COM port specified for that caller. BIOS/BIOS type
extender software can be used. FOSSIL support is not present in game!
Under different 'node' configuration files, you could have two different
scoreboard bulletins created, one for each node, but a game will only have
one scoreboard file in both ANSI and ASC format in its own door directory
at the completion of a successful run by a player. These are created
every time on a good run even if the .CFG file lists an N/A for BBS
bulletin msg creation.
Trivia MASTER! (C) 1990 - Marvin Davis Page - 9
WILDCAT v3.x BBS Door\Caller File Interfaces
--------------------------------------------
WildCat v3.0 and above can directly produce two caller info files for
use with external programs like Doors. They are both very different!
They are;
(1) USERINFO.DAT (native to WC3.x)
(2) DOOR.SYS (a standard adopted by GAP Communications)
If you are going to use the caller info file named "USERINFO.DAT", you
must SET the port being used for the game in your DOS Environment. The
file USERINFO.DAT does not contain the PORT number being used! It only
contains the DCE baud rate (actual callers baud rate not PORT DTE rate).
For any external program to know what PORT to open for communications
it must look in the Environment to see if the port ID variable has been
set.
This means if you type SET and press ENTER on the DOS command line, your
DOS Environment variables will be displayed. In there should be the
following variable assignment;
WCPORTID=2
this would be for the BBS using COM 2 or in the case of it using COM 1,
WCPORTID=1
If its not there you can easily SET this in your AUTOEXEC.BAT with the
following statement;
SET WCPORTID=2
If you need to only set the PORT ID for this one game, you can do it on
the FIRST LINE of the calling batchfile for the game;
SET WCPORTID=2
TRIVIA
CD C:\BBS
EXIT
If you DO NOT wish to use WILDCATS v3.0 new caller file (USERINFO.DAT),
you can always use the DOOR.SYS caller file that WC writes and change the
path to DOOR.SYS in line #4 of the TRIVIA.CFG file and call the game.
This tells the game to read DOOR.SYS for the caller info.
So, you as a WC3.x user have two different ways to directly interface
this game to your BBS. Either use DOOR.SYS or USERINFO.DAT.
